 Circles

By breaking up into small circle groups, we are able to better respond to personal needs of and open opportunities for our individual members.  Small groups provide an intimate setting where we can develop close relationships with other remarkable women who walk in the path of God.

We offer two types of circles: interest based and rotating.  All meetings run according to the local public school calendar, and some dates are subject to revision based on holidays.  Please check the calendar regularly to confirm meeting dates, times, venues, and programs.

 Interest Circles

Bible Circle: a Bible-based discussion group, led by members, to consider more deeply various texts, passages, and individuals.  They meet the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in room D126.

Changing Lives: provides a fellowship group for women with school age children.  Most of the members have children in middle, high school and college.  They meet the third Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in member’s homes.

Common Thread: provides hand-made goods for various institutions. Projects include: hats, bags, and pillows are made for MD Anderson patients, neck coolers, gators and helmet liners for US service personnel, and stoma covers for tracheotomy patients.  They meet the third Tuesday morning of each month at the church in D220.  Instruction will be provided if you need help with any of the projects.

Music: for those interested in music, this group explores all avenues of the art. From specific hymns and music pieces, to lectures about musical instruction, genre, and instruments, they are open to all styles and sounds.   They meet the third Tuesday of the month in a variety of locations at 9:30 a.m.

Reading: this monthly self-led book group meets the third Tuesday of the month in the Connection Center at 9:30 a.m.

Women of Spirit:   A new circle is in the early stages of forming.  Please join us on third Tuesdays, at 9:30 a.m. in Room D126 at the church  Bring a friend, if 9:30 a.m. is tough with pre-school drop off, let us know.  We will have fellowship time until 10 and conduct our business then.  This will be an exciting group, primarily of mothers with children up through elementary age.  A nursery will be provided.  Please bring your infants (0-9 months) not ready for the nursery in a stroller to the meeting.

Mary Lee Marshall Circle:  this is an evening circle with special programs all geared for women who are occupied during the daytime by work or home obligations.  This circle was named for a missionary to La Paz, Bolivia, who was known to many of the members.  They meet the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in room D220 of the church.

 Rotating Circles

These circles are self governing, and are re-combined every two years to “mix it up”.  Meeting venues and times vary according to group decision, but have been known to host a variety of speakers, go on field trips to House of Amos, Memorial Assistance Ministries, and the Brookwood Community Center, and even cook up frozen entrees for our Hearts and Hands Holiday Market.

At present there are two, named for influential women of Memorial Drive’s past.  More information on these women is offered below the circle meeting information.

  • Betty Landrum: third Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m., in members’ homes
  • Edith Moore: third Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m., at the church in room D127
